Over the week-end, I had a chance to read chapter 3 of the WordPress history book which is an ongoing project by Siobhan McKeown. This is a fantastic project and one that I’m eagerly anticipating to read cover to cover. Chapter 3 is 37 pages long and covers the creation of WordPress from b2, b2++…
The WordPress Users Association was launched in December of 2010 with the goal of providing a central place for WordPress users to swap war stories, learn how to get the most out of WordPress, and take part in getting special discounts on themes and plugins. Fast forward three years later and the idea appears to…
It’s hard to disagree with anything Cory Miller says in his 6 Keys To The Future Of WordPress Post. One of his keys is Blogging. He’s right in that blogging is the history and heritage of the WordPress software but over the past few years, so much has been done to try to rid the…
WordPress developer Simon Dickson had the chance to sit down with WordPress co-founder Mike Little for about a half hour during their WordPress 10th anniversary party. This is one of the longest interviews with Mike that I’ve seen and it covers his history of using computers, programming, the beginnings of WordPress and several other topics.…
The following is a guest blog post by the Seattle WordPress Meetup group. We thought it’d be fun to take a tour through the past versions of WordPress during Seattle’s wp10 party, so we came up with a convenient way for ourselves and others to do that. If you want to jump right in, you…
WordPress co-founder Mike Little will be given the outstanding contribution to digital media award at Sascon6. Sascon is a conference in the UK dedicated to a national audience of senior level digital and marketing professionals both agency and in-house working in the public and private sector. While Matt Mullenweg has been the high profile, public…
The WordPress Planet is a collection of WordPress centric websites that aggregate their content into one stream of information. In 2009, I proposed the idea of refocusing the dashboard so that it presented more WordPress Centric content. While some sites have been added and removed from the official Planet WordPress feed over the years, the…
If you live in the Northern Ohio area, make plans to stop by Water Street Tavern in Kent, OH Saturday, May 25th from 7PM-10PM to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of WordPress. There will be a cash bar, good food and from what I’ve read, there might actually be some WordPress swag. This event…
As long as I’ve been involved, I’ve seen countless numbers of companies misspelling WordPress. Despite the fact that WordPress added a filter to automatically correct the word, it still happens and when it does, the results are not pretty. Members of the community point out their mistake and while generally it’s enough to get a…
While reading an article on WPLift about Ghost by Nathan B Weller there were a couple of points brought up that I thought would make for a good discussion. One of the issues deals with the attractiveness of the WordPress back-end. Additionally, the drawbacks of the WordPress platform do not stop at its growing complexity.…
May 27th, 2013 marks the 10 year anniversary of the release of WordPress. While I have not used WordPress for all 10 years of its existence, I have used it since 2007 which I believe was around the 2.3 days. I vaguely remember 2.5 being anticipated as a big release. In fact, I think WordPress…
It’s time to clear up the debate once and for all. Despite all the doubts (and some haters), WordPress core is without a doubt one of the most secure platforms you can choose to put a site on. Of course, a WordPress install is only as secure as the plugins it leverages — but that’s…
A few days ago, I had the chance to participate briefly in a discussion held on Twitter around the topic of WordPress news centric sites seemingly disappearing off the face of the earth after a certain period of time. The question which started this conversation by Doug Stewart is as follows: “A question for which…
Noupe.com has an overall comparison post between the MODx CMS and WordPress. The overview is not thoroughly comprehensive but it does provide an at a glance view of MODx. I’ve never used MODx before so I’ll have to take their word for it.
In what is being considered one of the more interesting conversations at Le Web this year according to what I’ve read on Twitter, Om Malik And Matt Mullenweg discussed a number of things revolving around WordPress. While there were a number of tidbits to take away from their conversation, my favorite is Matt’s comments regarding…
